BASIC BREAD DOUGH
Equipment
- mixing bowl
- baking tray
- sieve
- small bowl
- jug
Ingredients
- 1 lb Strong Plain Flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 oz Fresh Yeast (25g)
- ½ tsp sugar
- 1 oz lard (25g)
Instructions
- Place yeast and sugar in a small bowl or jug.
- Add 5 fl oz (¼ pint) LUKE warm water.
- Mix and leave to froth
- Sieve flour and salt into a bowl.
- Rub in lard.
- Make a ‘well’ in the centre. Pour in the yeast mixture.
- Mix, using a wooden spoon, add more warm water if needed to make a soft, not sticky dough.
- Beat with wooden spoon until the mixture is smooth.
- Cover with cling film/tea towel and leave to double in size.
- Knead lightly until smooth (a good 5 mins or more, take care not to add too much flour!)
- This dough is now ready for use.
